End of Life & Grief Training:
Empowering Through Events and Workshops

Welcome to a journey of empowerment and understanding at the heart of life’s most profound moments.   At Bristol Memorial Woodlands, we believe that knowledge is the key to transforming the way we approach the end of life, grief, and bereavement. Three of life’s most uniquely complex challenges. Through our curated events and workshops, we aim to shed light on the significant yet often overlooked aspects of human existence. We seek to offer support, insight, and a compassionate community.

Join us as we explore the complexities of loss, the importance of planning for the end of life, and the varied experiences of grief. Together, we can break down barriers, foster meaningful conversations, and create a supportive environment for everyone affected by these universal experiences.

Glimmer of Light 2026

A reflective evening to mark World Suicide Prevention Day 2026.

Join charity Sunflowers Suicide Support for a poignant gathering, as we come together to mark World Suicide Prevention Day. This event offers a quiet and respectful space for remembrance, solidarity, and healing, so you’re not alone in your thoughts. We’ll watch the sunset together, and each of us will have the opportunity to light a lantern, symbolizing our commitment to illuminate the darkness surrounding suicide. Children are welcome, but please be mindful that this is an emotive event designed to open the conversation about suicide.

RSVP: While this event is open to all, Sunflowers require all attendees to register and notify how many cars will be brought. Please ensure any additional people wanting to attend register.

Charity Afternoon Tea for Breast Cancer Now

A Charity Afternoon Tea event as part of Breast Cancer Awareness month, with all funds raised going to charity Breast Cancer Now.

With teas, coffees, cakes and sweet treats available to enjoy for a small donation, the afternoon is open to everyone and will run from 11am-3pm, allowing guests to drop in at their convenience.

Becks, hospitality manager at Bristol Memorial Woodlands, said: “Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, accounting for 15% of all new cancer cases. In females there are around 59,000 new cases every year.

“I think if you haven’t already had a scare yourself, someone close to you probably has. I’ve had some close friends survive it and one friend is in the middle of treatment.

“Here at Memorial Woodlands we help families who have lost someone to cancer regularly so wanted to do something that would help raise some funds but also bring people together to reflect.”

“We’ll be holding a raffle for a small cost with some lovely small prizes available. We’re really looking forward to welcoming lots of people from across the area to not only enjoy the space, but meet new people and stand together against cancer.”

End of life Conversations & Planning Workshop

Starting conversations about the end of life, death, and everything that comes with it is undoubtedly tough. It’s a topic many of us shy away from, yet it’s as natural as life itself. With the right mix of knowledge and empathy, however, navigating these conversations can become incredibly fulfilling and meaningful.

That’s exactly what our half-day introductory workshop is here to do.

We deeply believe in nurturing your ability to handle conversations around the end of life with grace, understanding, and a supportive spirit. Our workshop is crafted to be more than just a learning experience—it’s a pathway to discovering how to offer genuine support and presence during life’s most poignant moments.

Whether you’re a healthcare professional, a social worker, or someone who just wants to be there for others. This workshop is a step towards making a significant difference in the lives of many.

This workshop is completely free for local professionals in healthcare and social care settings. As a reflection of our team’s commitment to building a community equipped to handle end-of-life matters with dignity and compassion.

If you’re ready to embark on this rewarding journey, please contact us at info@gentledusk.org.uk to book your spot in our next session.

Let’s change the way we talk about the end of life, together.

During the workshop, we will explore:

  • The Basics of End-of-Life Planning: Understand the essentials of what planning for the end of life encompasses, from legal paperwork to personal wishes.
  • Initiating Conversations: Learn how to start these crucial dialogues in a way that’s respectful, compassionate, and responsive to the needs of those you’re supporting.
  • Recording End-of-Life Wishes: Discover the importance of documenting preferences and how this can ease the emotional load for both individuals and their families.
  • Navigating Emotions: Equip yourself with strategies to manage the complex feelings that arise during these conversations, for both yourself and the person you’re supporting.
